After a string of successful single releases, Dominic Prince aka Dead Language recently dropped his debut EP Like Heart on the 28th of April and boy, is it everything I had hoped it would be.
With a track record of being critically praised for his unique sound, it’s no surprise that Like Heart has met the same fate. A mix between 80’s synths and 90’s electronica, the EP is like nothing you’ve ever heard before.
In regards to the writing process and inspiration behind the EP, Prince said: “All the songs found here were written while I was living in a share house in Leichhardt, Sydney. I wanted to immortalise that part of my life and pay tribute to the suburb that had yielded so much musical fodder for me, hence the homophonous ‘Like Heart’. It was in that house that I had first fallen in love, that I had went to recover, and yet that I had also met my darkest demons. The EP is a patchwork. It’s my (therapeutic) attempt to make something beautiful and whole from the pieces left of a fractured period in my life, like an old hand-sewn quilt. It’s my attempt to capture the extremities, the mundanities, the everything-in-betweens of being in your early twenties.”
If you like the sound of all that, make sure to check out Like Heart on Spotify. You can also catch Dead Language at some upcoming Sydney shows to celebrate the release of Like Heart.
