Americans seem to get it all when it comes to concerts & music festivals. While we sit here sweating for 80% of the year, hoping & praying for our favourite international act that probably hasn’t toured Australia since 2009 to pop up on a festival lineup we’ll probably end up spending half our paycheck on, there’s people in America just casually popping over to Las Vegas to see acts with residencies such as Britney Spears, Steve Aoki or even the Backstreet Boys, if that’s what you’re into.
I’m sure we’ve all been in the position where you’ve looked at a flyer for an American music festival and thought to yourself “this has gotta be fake”. So I’ve compiled a list of the top 5 hard to believe, but 100% genuine American music festival lineups coming up in 2017/2018.
#1 FYF Fest, 21st-23rd of July 2017, Los Angeles.
Personally, this lineup is the worst for me purely based off the fact that if Australia has any saving grace for AMAZING international acts ending up on festival lineups, its Splendour in the Grass. Like anyone you see on this lineup? You can most likely cross them off your Splendour wishlist, as the festival’s run across the same dates. Thanks again, America.
#2 Lollapalooza, 3rd-6th of August 2017, Chicago
By this point, i genuinely just feel like we’re being made fun of. Can you even imagine living in a world where Milky Chance isn’t within the first 3 acts on a festival lineup? Also, I can’t be the only one who looks at this lineup and automatically assumes tickets would have to be like $4000 right?
#3 Vans Warped Tour, numerous dates & locations from June – August 2017
If you grew up a little more on the emo side of life like i did, this probably isn’t the first time you’ve looked at a Warped Tour poster and thought to yourself “why wasn’t i born an American?” I swear to god, every year i look at these posters and see 25 bands right off the bat that I would actually chop off my right arm to see play live all in one day.
#4 Firefly Music Festival, June 15-18th 2017, Delaware
Yup, you’re seeing what I’m seeing. Flume. Not in the largest font size possible?! But also, how is it even possible for them to gather this many people to one festival? Is there some sort of festival crash course our Australian festival organisers need to be taking? I’m feeling very victimised right now.
#5 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, April 14th-April 23rd 2017, California.
If there was ever a music festival that felt like a straight up kick to the face, this is it. We get it America, you have Beyonce. You win.
Now that we’re done torturing ourselves with what could have been if only our parents decided to move to America before our birth, let’s all sit together in a circle and cry, and hope & pray for an amazing 2017 Splendour in the Grass lineup.
